Ajjah is a Palestinian town in the Jenin Governorate, located approximately 20 kilometers south of Jenin City. As a newly established municipality, with its municipal council formed in 2016, Ajjah is still in the early stages of its development. Like many emerging local authorities, the town faces significant challenges in providing adequate municipal services, particularly recreational facilities for its residents.
For many years, the people of Ajjah lacked a public space where families and children could gather, relax, and enjoy their leisure time. Residents were often forced to travel to neighboring towns in search of parks and recreational areas, especially during the summer months.
Recognizing the importance of accessible public spaces in enhancing community well-being, Ajjah Municipality identified the establishment of a public park as one of its strategic development priorities.
The project was implemented with a total investment of €173,000, financed by the Municipal Development and Lending Fund (MDLF), with an additional €75,000 contribution from Ajjah Municipality. The project was executed in two phases, ensuring the gradual development of the park and its facilities.
For local resident Saeed Shehadeh, the park fulfilled a long-awaited dream.
"Ajjah was in desperate need of this park. It provides families and children with a safe place for recreation, especially during the summer. Before the park was established, I was always concerned about my children playing in the streets because there was nowhere else for them to go. Today, they finally have a safe place where they can play and enjoy their time."
Another resident, Muhammad Maali, believes the park has transformed daily life in the town.
"For years, residents had to travel outside Ajjah to find a place for leisure and entertainment, which imposed additional financial burdens on families. Today, the park offers that opportunity within our own community."
The park, covering approximately five dunums, serves more than 6,300 residents. It includes family seating areas, youth gathering spaces, children's playgrounds, an open-air amphitheater for cultural, social and national events, restaurants, and parking facilities.
